Hidden beneath Dunkin Donuts, at the corner of College Avenue and Fraser Street, is a haven for the homeless community of State College. Since March of 2014, Hearts for Homeless has provided a safe place to stay during the day. Clients can come anytime during the day to eat, learn job hunting skills, or even sleep on couches, as these clients who identified themselves as Star and Ted, are seen doing here. Director, Ginny Poorman, and assistant director, Ashton Munoz, run the organization.

Regular volunteer, Kent McCloslsey, sets up lunch for the day. Local restaurants, churches, and organizations donate food to support Hearts for Homeless.

This lunch was provided by Indian Pavilion. Hearts for Homeless aims to provide regular meals to its clients.

Hearts for Homeless provides comfortable safe places for their clients. At anytime during the day, clients can visit and relax. Here, a client who would only identify himself as "Ted" watches a movie before lunch is served.

The center relies on volunteers like McCloslsey, left, and Evan Higgins to make sure the doors are open throughout the day. Volunteers converse with clients and provide an open and welcoming environment.

Higgins, right, greets a new client who identified himself as Tim. In addition to food and rest, clients can get storage space, an address for mail, help with resume building, and interview skills through the program. Tim has since made plans to leave State College as he has been unable to find a steady living situation. He plans to move to Bedford, where he has family.

Star takes advantage of the warm, comfortable environment in the program's facility. The program is available to anyone in, or facing homelessness.

Volunteer, Mariele Schechter, reacts to the news that Hearts for Homeless is planning to move to a larger location. Although the new location is also not licensed for living (meaning clients could not spend the night there), there is significantly more space at the yet-to-be-disclosed location.
